FAQ

Are you professionally trained?

Yes. I have a Bachelor of Science in Multimedia and Website Development from the Art Institute of Portland with a focus on photography and image manipulation (Photoshop). Never one to rest upon my laurels, I continue to further my education through various seminars, courses, in-field trainings, and more. When you work with me, you can rest assure that your photographs are technically correct, creative, and evoke a strong sense of emotion.

What is your style?

My personal style: I’m not talking about the clothes I wear, I’m talking about how I behave. To sum it up: I’m here to listen and make sure you get the shots you want. I believe communication is the key and will help out every step of the way. From answering questions leading up to our shoot to giving plenty of direction when you’re in front of the lens so you’re never left wondering. As a result, you’ll have an authentic experience and the photography will be better than you ever expected.

My photographic style: This world is a vibrant place and I’m here to show it off. Whenever I photograph people, I love to showcase two things: color and an ultra shallow depth of field. When you look at your photos, I want the colors and depth of field to create a 3D feeling that sucks you into the shot. I use this as a basis when photographing and meld it with the exact photos you’re looking for.

How many photos do we get?

When it comes to wedding photography, it depends on how long we shoot and if we bring on a 2nd photographer. For an 8-hour photo shoot, you can expect anywhere between 400-1,200 finalized photos for you to enjoy for years and years to come.
A 1-hour family photo shoot or engagement session will usually yield somewhere between 100 and 200 photographs.

It’s possible for me to shoot 5x that many during our time together. Once our photo shoot wraps up, I remove duplicates, out-of-focus shots and any that just aren’t as cool as the rest. You’ll end up with a well rounded story of our time together.

What gear do you shoot with? How do you edit?

I’ve been shooting exclusively on Canon cameras and Profoto lighting equipment since my professional career started (and even back in high school when I took my first photography class and developed my own film in the dark room). I’ve been with Canon ever since. I currently shoot on Canon’s flagship full frame mirrorless camera body, the R5. The glass (lenses) I use are diverse: 8-15mm f/2.8, 14mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 85mm f/1.2, 100mm macro f/2.8, and 70-200mm f/2.8.

When I put down the camera and pick up the mouse, I do all of my editing in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. 90% of the heavy lifting is accomplished by editing the RAW file data and then advanced image manipulation is the final step before all the photos are ready for a client. As a result, your photography will look top notch.

Where do you photograph?

Most of my shoots occur in the general Hood River, OR and Park City, UT areas since there are so many beautiful places to show off. I prefer to photograph outside and use natural light to showcase you and the surrounding landscape. For instance, our rustic Main Street and quiet trails all around town are terrific places to photograph. I can provide several location recommendations depending on what type of photography you’re looking for.

Do you help with posing?

Absolutely! I’m here to make sure you look great and feel great doing it. I promise. From the beginning of our shoot, we’ll take the time to walk through what you’ll be doing in front of the lens and what I’m doing behind it. I’ll give you simple pointers and queues to use so you’re comfortable, confident and the best of you shows up in the photographs. I’m also going to share with you photos taken along the way so you can see just how great the shots are turning out.

Why should I hire a professional photographer?

Today, everyone has access to good camera equipment, but there is just so much more to photography than what filter to use on instagram. It’s about understanding the science behind light, how to compose a shot, the ability to pose one, two or a group of people, and so much more. Before the camera shutter is even pressed, a professional photographer has spent years perfecting their craft and the results will show.

What should I wear?

Every photo shoot is different – weather changes fast! It depends on where we shoot, when we shoot, and what you want to get out of your photographs. We will discuss this question in detail before your photo shoot to make sure you’re well prepared.

Should I bring props to my portrait session?

Go for it! If you’re a musician, bring your instrument. Throw the umbrella in the car if it looks like rain. Have a favorite scarf? Grab it as you walk out the door. Props are not mandatory, but they may help you feel more comfortable in front of the camera.

How did you come up with your business name?

When I think back to my first memories of photography, I think of my mom and dad. Both of them were avid photographers (my father still photographs in retirement). My dad nicknamed me Mot as a kid and has been calling me by this name ever since. Mot is nothing but my first name backwards. MOT photography is in homage to my parents whom I credit for getting me into art and photography.

Do you do destination photography (like a wedding)?

I sure do! I may be based in Utah, but serve clients all over the world. My destination photography packages include the cost of travel, reasonable accommodations, and are custom-tailored to your unique itinerary and the photography you want to get. If I travel with you, I’m there to work and will document every step of the way. You’ll walk away with a well-rounded, extremely well curated catalog of photographs that showcase your amazing trip.

What happens after we wrap up our photo shoot?

I pride myself on turning over professionally editing photos quickly. I typically turn around a 1-hour photo shoot in 1-2 weeks. Weddings and event photography usually take me 2-4 weeks. Though it isn’t guaranteed, I’ve successfully turned over polished photos to clients in less than 24 hours (see my testimonials for further insite on this). All photos will be uploaded to my website. From there, you can download them (password protected for security), order prints, canvases, and share your gallery with your friends and family. Photos typically stay on the site for a year before they’re removed. I keep a master backup of them for 10 years from the date of our session together.

Will I get the print release to our photos after the shoot?

Yes. I deliver a full print release at the same time you receive your images.

Will I have the rights to my photos?

Yes. You will receive high resolution digital files watermark free and a signed approval letter permitting personal use and printing.

Do I have to order prints through you?

Though it isn’t required, I highly recommend it. I’ve strategically partnered with a lab who focuses exclusively on professional printing. Their staff and equipment are world-renound for quality and efficiency. The pricing reflects a premium product that will withstand the tests of time.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, credit cards, debit cards, PayPal, ApplePay, and Venmo payments.

Do I lose out on my security deposit in the event of horrible weather?

I get it: accidents happen and mother nature can cause havoc outside. In either event, you will not lose your security deposit – it simply rolls over to a new date that works with both of our schedules. If you’re not able to reschedule, the security deposit is forfeit.
