Selecting the right wedding photographer in Bend is essential to authentically capture your special day’s emotions. The connection between you and your photographer is crucial as it sets the tone for your entire wedding day experience. There is no other wedding vendor who will be around you more than your photographer. Take your time during the interview process and ask questions about not only their photography experience, but who they are as a person. You should feel comfortable and relaxed; never forced. I promise, having a wonderful rapport will reflect in your photos.

Experience in wedding photography is more than just the number of years behind the lens—it's about understanding the flow of a wedding day and being able to capture fleeting moments. First, if you ever meet with a photographer who believes having the best equipment is all you need to be successful, you should probably walk the other way. There is so, so much more to photography than the camera, lenses, and flash equipment. BUT, that doesn't mean this it isn't something you should consider when choosing your wedding photographer. You're investing a lot into your wedding and what could be worse than hiring someone unprepared or unable to capture every heartfelt moment. The quality of your wedding photos is heavily dependent on the equipment used. Ensure your photographer has high-quality, reliable gear, and ideally, backup equipment to handle any unexpected situations is paramount.
6. KNOWLEDGE OF THE MARKET
A great Central Oregon wedding photographer knows the local market well, including the best photo spots, the key wedding vendors, and how to handle the typical weather and lighting challenges. Their local expertise can be invaluable in enhancing the quality of your photos. It's always a smart play to hire a local who understands these unique variables.

It's also a great idea to make sure your photographer has these contingency plans built into their wedding contract. Personally, I have contract clauses that spell out what happens if I get sick, am involved in an accident, and much more.

Keep in mind that photographers are oftentimes very busy during peak photography season - especially on the weekends. Most of them should be able to respond within 48 hours even at the busiest times of year.
I always enjoy discussing how I communicate and coordinate with each of my wedding clients. I also provide a step-by-step timeline to make sure we're all on the same page. When it comes to communication, my rule is same day replies unless it's peak season; then I may need one or (at most) two days.

01. HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK MY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
Answer: I always recommend booking your wedding photographer as soon as you have your date and venue (those two things must be set first). It's ideal to book at least 12 months in advance to ensure availability, especially for popular dates and locations. If you are under 12 months from your wedding date and decide you want a photographer, it's completely okay to reach out and inquire.
02. CAN I REQUEST A SPECIFIC LIST OF SHOTS OR POSES?
Answer: Absolutely! Most photographers are happy to accommodate specific requests to ensure you get the personal touches you want in your wedding album. I always offer up a Pinterest board where we can collaborate on photography inspiration.
03. WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY PHOTOGRAPHER HAS NEVER WORKED AT MY WEDDING VENUE BEFORE?
Answer: First of all, this should never be a dealbreaker. Photographers oftentimes are the most excited (and therefor will work harder) if they've never photographed at a particular location. If your photographer hasn’t worked at your venue before, it might be a good idea to have them visit the site beforehand to scout locations and assess lighting, which can help in planning the shoot more effectively.
