Hannah & Derek’s Trout Lake Hall Wedding
Hannah and Derek’s Trout Lake Hall wedding was everything they wanted — intentional, meaningful, and surrounded by the people they love most. From the quiet moments tucked into the woods to a dance floor that absolutely went off, the day was a perfect reflection of who they are: down-to-earth, connected to nature, and focused on sharing the joy with everyone around them.
Getting Ready in the Woods
The day started at a house tucked into the woods outside Trout Lake, WA. Hannah got ready inside with her closest friends and family, while Derek and his friends prepped in the guest house. Before the morning got away from them, Derek surprised Hannah with a beautiful necklace — a quiet, thoughtful gesture that set the tone for the day.
Hannah also shared a special moment with her parents before her mom helped her into the wedding dress — a gown over 80 years old, worn by both her grandmother and mother before her. Alterations by Katie Rose Alterations brought the dress back to life, removing the sleeves, refining the fit, and letting it move with the breeze. Seeing it in the soft light of the room, it was clear just how much history and meaning this dress carried.
First Look & Portraits in Nature
Hannah and Derek chose to see each other before the ceremony, sharing a private first look on the property. Derek’s reaction said it all — pure joy at seeing his bride. From there, we headed into the woods for their couples portraits.
It was relaxed and fun — a chance for them to soak in the moment before being surrounded by their guests the rest of the day. They love their people deeply, but they also thrive in nature. The quiet forest, the filtered light, and the stillness of the surroundings gave them space to connect and be grounded in the place they love so much.
The Venue: Trout Lake Hall
If you’re looking for a venue that does it all, Trout Lake Hall delivers. Not only does it offer a rustic, charming space in one of the most scenic corners of Washington, but they also provide bar service, food, dessert, florals, and the perfect setup for live music. Dana, the venue manager, kept the day running without a hitch — in sync with every moment and every need. Owners Ray and Tiara have created a space that’s warm, inviting, and ready to host a celebration that feels like you.
A Ceremony Full of Meaning
Hannah and Derek’s ceremony was exactly what they wanted: short, sweet, and focused on their vows. Friends walked down the aisle, but instead of standing up front as a wedding party, they got to sit down and enjoy the moment.
Her bouquet looked like it had been picked fresh from a forest garden that morning, naturally blending into the backdrop of Trout Lake. During the ceremony, a group of women from Hannah’s family sang an a cappella song — a tradition that’s been part of family weddings for years. It was personal and perfectly in line with the tone of the day.
Celebrating the Rest of the Evening
Hannah and Derek made it clear: their wedding wasn’t about putting themselves at the center of every photo — it was about the experience their guests were having. From kids running across the lawn to friends sharing laughs over cocktails, the people around them were just as much a part of the celebration as the couple themselves.
One of the best moments after the ceremony? How can I pick one?!? I personally loved watching Hannah’s brother, Richard, thrive as the MC for the evening, bringing energy, humor, and warmth to every toast and transition. But I also loved watching such a special family tradition play out in front of my eyes: it's tradition on Hannah's side of the family that the wedding couple is sang a well-known song, but reworded to fit the couple's love story. This was so fun to watch, enjoy, (and capture).
When Mitch & The Melody Makers hit the stage, Trout Lake Hall turned into a full-on concert. This band sends it — from one member shedding his shirt because it was so hot to another weaving through the crowd mid-song. They mixed in classic dance floor favorites, and the energy never dipped. This group came ready to dance, and the band matched them step for step.
A Quick Mountain-View Moment
Before I wrapped up for the evening, we stepped behind the ceremony site at Trout Lake Hall for one last quick portrait session in the open field. Mt. Adams stood tall in the distance as Derek and Hannah soaked in a few quiet moments together, reflecting on everything the day had been. It was the perfect way to end my time with them—finishing on a high note with a view every bit as incredible as their Trout Lake Hall wedding.
