Nativity Lutheran Church: A Beautiful Central Oregon Wedding

Maria and Lael’s wedding at Nativity Lutheran Church in Bend, Oregon wasn’t about extravagance or over-production. It was about love: real in every sense of the word and celebrated in a community that showed up with open arms. This wasn’t a day defined by big budgets or curated perfection. It was defined by two people who have walked through challenges, found one another, and built a love story grounded in faith, music, and deep connection.

Maria and Lael’s journey began in the most fitting way — through music. Maria, a music director and vocalist, and Lael, a pianist, found themselves sharing playlists, leading worship, and soon realizing that every song, every note, seemed to pull them closer together. What started with “sparkly eyes at first sight” quickly became something deeper: a bond of shared passions, late-night conversations, and eventually, the certainty that they were each other’s forever. By the time their wedding day arrived, their story was already filled with harmonies, both literal and figurative.

The sanctuary at Nativity Lutheran felt like the perfect space for these two. Safe, welcoming, and affirming, it embraced not only Maria and Lael, but everyone gathered to celebrate them. The words of their officiant, Pastor Dave Brauer-Rieke, struck a chord with me personally: a message of unity, equality, and the power of love that resonated far beyond the church walls — something that feels more important now than ever before.


Music filled the day in ways that felt true to who they are. The organ swelled, voices rose in song, and every piece of it underscored what brought Maria and Lael together in the first place. Their vows were genuine and moving, and when they stood hand in hand, it was clear this was the beginning of something extraordinary.

Their dresses were handmade by a friend, each stitch carrying the love and care of someone who knew just how special this day was. Flowers were simple but thoughtful, and the reception in the Fellowship Hall carried the same spirit: a gathering of family, friends, and community, sharing food and laughter. It was humble, yes, but also deeply meaningful.
