Five years in the making, planned to the last detail on one of Bend's most beautiful properties

She Was Always There, Until One Day She Really Was

Ben and Allison grew up in the same world without ever really finding each other. She was an acquaintance, nothing more, until college changed the equation. She ran in the same circles as his fraternity, and over time something simple and easy started to take shape. She became his best friend without either of them making a big deal out of it. Then COVID happened. Allison went home, Ben stayed, and the silence of that distance told him everything he needed to know. He missed her in a way that answered every question he hadn't yet asked out loud. They got together in the back half of the pandemic, moved to Austin after graduation, built a life around good food, travel, health, and the comfort of just being home together. Five years later, he was ready to make it official, and he wanted to do it somewhere that felt as considered and intentional as their relationship.

Why Ben Chose Juniper Preserve, And Why It Was the Right Call

Ben knows Bend. He loves it here, and when he started thinking about where to propose, Spirit Island at Juniper Preserve kept coming back to him. It felt classic. It complemented who they are as a couple, understated, quality-driven, and not ones to overcomplicate what's already perfect. Ben was clear from the start: no crowd, no applause, just the two of them and a moment that belonged entirely to them. Enter: Spirit Island. Juniper Preserve is the kind of property that makes you forget the rest of the world exists the moment you arrive. Nestled outside Bend, it offers everything from world class golf and spa treatments to incredible dining and some of the most peaceful natural surroundings in Central Oregon. For Ben, proposing there made perfect sense.

The Planning That Made It Possible

Ben first reached out to me in May, and from that first conversation I could tell he wasn't looking for someone to just show up and take pictures. He needed a partner. What set me apart wasn't a price point or a portfolio, it was that I listened. We talked through everything: timeline, location logistics, how to hold the ring box, how to get down on one knee without overthinking it, and how to set up the cover story without tipping her off. I connected directly with Melody and her team at Juniper Preserve, and they were exceptional at every turn. From coordinating the reservation timing to making sure the property was set up perfectly for the moment, they treated this proposal like it was their own event to get right. That kind of staff investment in a guest's experience is rare, and it made a real difference on the day.

The Day Everything Came Together

Ben and Allison spent the day enjoying Bend the right way, floating the river, taking in the summer, and soaking up what this place does best. They headed back to Juniper Preserve in the evening, stepping back into that quiet the property wraps around you the moment you pull in. About thirty minutes before the proposal, Ben excused himself with a quick cover story about a business call he needed to take. We met out on the island, confirmed our positions, and finalized every detail. He went back, finished getting ready, and when they headed toward dinner he told Allison he had mixed up the reservation time and they had an hour to spare. A walk to the island seemed like the natural thing to do. I was already hidden, camera tucked in the bushes, positioned just off the path they would walk. They passed within feet of me and Allison had no idea. Once they reached the island, Ben walked Allison to the exact spot we had planned, dropped to one knee, and asked her to marry him. She said yes. We spent the next hour shooting on the island, exploring the cave, and moving through the Ghost Tree forest as the light wound down around us. Then I stepped away and let them enjoy the dinner they had both actually earned.
