December Wedding with Mild Central Oregon Winter Weather

Some wedding venues just work. No matter the season. No matter the weather. FivePine Lodge is one of those places, and Caity and Steven’s wedding is a perfect example of why I love photographing here year round.

This was a December wedding in Sisters, Oregon. There was a cool bite to the air, but nothing harsh. The kind of weather where a light jacket keeps everything comfortable and being outside actually feels refreshing. One unexpected December bonus was the thin film of ice along the stream on the property. It was subtle, clean, and honestly perfect for detail photos.

I carefully placed their rings and a few meaningful items directly on the ice for flat-lay images that felt seasonal without screaming winter. After getting ready, we headed into the woods for their first look. FivePine’s forest paths are perfect for this. Quiet, private, and surrounded by towering pines that immediately ground the moment.

Steven’s son was right there with him, holding his hand as Caity walked up. That small detail ended up being one of my favorite parts of the day. The three of them together felt natural and real from the start, and the way his son welcomed Caity into that moment said everything about the kind of family they are building.

The wedding party set the tone early. Fun, laid back, and zero drama. Nothing felt forced, which meant portraits stayed quick and natural.

The ceremony took place outdoors on the lawn and lasted about thirty minutes. It was simple, personal, and very Pacific Northwest. No overproduction. No distractions. Just the people who mattered most gathered under the trees.

Steven’s son absolutely stole the show with a bubble gun, running laps around the dance floor all night with the biggest smile on his face. Those moments are the reason I love receptions like this. Nothing staged. Just people enjoying themselves.
