from check in calls to a cheering crowd, here's how it all came together

High School Sweethearts, A Weekend Trip, A Plan
Matt reached out to me about two months before he proposed to Nayeli, and from our very first call I could tell this was a guy who wanted every detail right. They had been together since their senior year of high school, and they were driving over from the Portland metro for the weekend so Nayeli could finally see the Bend area for the first time. Matt picked Caldera Springs' Lakehouse Restaurant for the moment, and the second I saw that bridge looking out over the lake, I understood why.
Two Months Of Planning For One Moment
Matt and I talked through every piece of this proposal together. I scouted the location ahead of time and sent him photos and video so he knew exactly where to stand, what the light would look like, and how the whole thing would unfold. We talked through timing, how to hold the ring box, and what to say to get Nayeli onto that bridge without giving anything away. He told her they had a 7pm dinner reservation, when really it was at 8, just to buy us the extra time we needed.
Going Undercover As A Golfer
On the day of, I posted up near the golf path dressed like I belonged there, chatting with my friend Kelly who works at Caldera Springs and helped me blend right in. Matt and Nayeli walked within feet of me on their way to the bridge and she had no idea. Matt told her he wanted to grab a quick photo of her looking out over the water, and as she turned to face the lake, he dropped to one knee. I had one camera locked onto the bridge taking continuous frames the whole time, and I grabbed a second one the moment I saw him get into position. Nayeli's reaction was priceless, pure shock and joy all at once. And just as Matt asked the question, the dinner crowd on the back patio caught what was happening and broke into cheers and applause. Getting to witness that in person, camera in hand, was absolutely incredible!
WHY CALDERA SPRINGS IS A PROPOSAL LOCATION WORTH KNOWING ABOUT
Caldera Springs turned out to be an incredible setting for a surprise proposal, and the team there made it even better. If you're thinking about popping the question in the Sunriver area, here's why this spot belongs on your radar.
- The bridge and area surrounding Lake House restaurant offers a stunning, unobstructed view over the water, perfect for that walk up moment
- Caldera Springs staff went above and beyond, helping coordinate reservations and timing so everything lined up perfectly
- It's close enough to Sunriver and Bend for an easy weekend trip, but still feels like its own private escape
- The lighting near the lake in the early evening is soft and flattering, ideal for photos
- Privacy near the bridge made it easy for me to stay hidden until the right moment
If you're planning a proposal in the Sunriver or Bend area and want someone who will treat your timeline, your nerves, and your moment like it's the most important shoot of the year (because it is), I'd love to help you pull it off. Reach out and let's start planning.
