Jordan & Bryan's Dark Themed Wedding
-When the Bride Wears Black-

Because Some Couples Were Never Meant to Do Things The Traditional Way
Jordan and Bryan met in 2013 when they both signed up for a snowboarding class at COCC. They connected instantly despite being very different people. He showed her how fun video games could be when you actually know what you're doing. She showed him all the outdoor adventures Bend had to offer. At some point she moved into his townhouse without exactly asking permission, and that's how they started dating. Over the next decade they grew up together, figured out what worked, and built something amazing. So when it came time to plan a wedding, nobody who knows these two was surprised that they went their own direction entirely.
Black Dress. Purple Accents. Zero Apologies.
Jordan wore black. Not off-white, not ivory, not blush. Black. The bridesmaids were in deep purple. The florals, the boutonnieres, the accents throughout the day all carried that same dark, intentional palette. It was bold, it was cohesive, and it was completely them. FivePine Lodge in Sisters provided the backdrop: all pines and perfect April light. The contrast between that rich browns and greens naturally found at this stellar venue and the dark color palette of this wedding made for some of the most striking frames I've shot here. The weather didn't hurt either. Clear skies, low 70s, not a puff of wind. Perfect in every sense of the word.
The Wedding Party and the Ring Security Team
The groomsmen deserve their own mention. Bryan's guys are all gamer friends, and a number of them were meeting each other face-to-face for the very first time at this wedding. Think about that. These are people with deep, genuine friendships built entirely online, showing up in person for one of the biggest days of their friend's life. That's actually incredible. The energy from this group all day was awesome. And on Jordan's side, the flower boys serving as the ring security team during the ceremony were one of the highlights of the whole day. Kids fully committed to the bit. The ceremony itself was informal, fun, and officiated by Jordan's uncle, which kept everything feeling personal and completely stress free.
Short, Sweet, and Exactly Right
The ceremony was 15 minutes and that was the whole point. Jordan and Bryan are not the kind of couple who needed a production. They needed the words, the rings, and the people they love watching it happen. Jordan's uncle officiated, kept it personal, kept it moving, and did exactly what a great ceremony is supposed to do: get two people married without making everyone sit through a production. There is something really refreshing about a couple who knows what they want and doesn't feel pressured to stretch it out. Fifteen minutes. Done. Married. Let's celebrate.
A Sunset Session and a First Dance Nobody (that knows the couple) was Surprised By
Jordan changed into a black cocktail dress after the ceremony. The golden hour light at FivePine in April is incredible and having two looks to work with made that session even better. Back inside, the toasts were great and the cake cutting was fun. Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. Instead of a first dance, Jordan and Bryan sat down in front of a giant screen and raced each other in Mario Kart while guests watched and cheered. Jordan won. The whole room was electric. It was 100% them, and it was one of the most fun moments I've ever witnessed at a reception. Truth be told, I wanted to stop photographing, pick up a controller, and see if I remembered how to throw down at Mario Kart. :)
WHY A DARK THEMED WEDDING MIGHT BE EXACTLY RIGHT FOR YOU
A dark themed wedding isn't for everyone, and that's precisely why it works so well for the couples who choose it. It takes confidence to go against the grain and swap white for black. But when it's right, it's really right. The photos are striking, the vibe is cohesive, and the whole day feels real in a way that generic wedding aesthetics simply can't match.
- Your photos will stand out from every other wedding gallery online. Dark palettes, rich florals, and dramatic contrast make for images that stop people mid-scroll. If you want a gallery that actually looks like you, this is how you get there.
- Black is incredibly versatile. It works in the forest, in a barn, in a modern venue, in golden hour light. There is no bad backdrop for a black dress. It photographs beautifully in every setting.
- The details hit differently. Dark florals, moody candles, deep jewel toned accents. Every element of a dark themed wedding feels intentional and curated. Nothing gets lost in a sea of white tablecloths.
- Your guests will remember it. Most weddings blur together after a while. A dark themed wedding does not. It's bold enough to stick with people long after the night is over.
- Most importantly, it's yours. If this is who you are as a couple, your wedding should reflect that. The best wedding days are the ones that feel authentic. Don't dress up as someone you're not for the sake of tradition.
If you're a bride considering wearing black and want a photographer who'll be just as excited about it as you are, let's talk.
